Beam Air Power Supply Guide

TROUBLESHOOTING:

**Before attempting any of the following, please be sure that the Beam Air Fume Extractor is unplugged from the wall outlet to avoid serious injury from electrical shock.**

The Beam Air Fume Extractor uses a 48V 5A JCPower (model #: JC-240-48) internal power supply with a manual power input selector switch. If the unit is not powering on and the Power Button LED is not illuminated, the power supply may be to blame. There are a few required steps to determine the functionality of the power supply:

  1. Be sure that the wall outlet is supplying the proper output voltage (115VAC for US, 230VAC for Europe) and that the power cord is firmly plugged into the rear of the Beam Air. For customers with a 230VAC power grid, please see this article before proceeding.
  2. Press the Power Button on the front of the Beam Air and identify if the White LED ring illuminates. If it does not illuminate, proceed to the next step. If the LED illuminates, rotate the Speed Adjustment Knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click, then rotate it clockwise about a 1/8 turn to confirm if the fan turns on -- please see this article if the fan does not turn on.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Then, turn the Beam Air up-side down and remove the 16 Philips screws around the perimeter of the lower access panel. Once removed, set the lower access panel aside. 

  4. With the lower access panel removed, firmly press the Power Button Connector (yellow) to ensure that it is making proper contact with the Power Button pins. Next, verify that the power input connectors are firmly seated on the pins of the rear C13 Power Socket. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet and press the Power Button again to see if the White LED ring illuminates. If not, proceed to the next step. (BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE OF THE CASE WHEN THE UNIT IS PLUGGED INTO THE WALL OUTLET)

  5. Lastly, with the Beam Air plugged into the wall outlet and the Power Button pressed, verify if the Power Supply status LED (green) is illuminated below the mesh. If not, then the Power Supply will need to be replaced. Please contact us for the proper replacement part.

REPLACEMENT:

The required materials for the replacement procedure are as follows:

  • Philips or Flat screwdriver
  • 5.5mm hex nut screwdriver (magnetic tip)
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Replacement power supply

Start by removing the lower access panel as instructed in the above Troubleshooting section. Using the 5.5mm hex nut screwdriver, remove the two tiny hex nuts from the mounting studs located in the opposite corners of the power supply. You may need to use the needle-nose pliers to grasp and remove the tiny nuts -- be careful not to loose these!

With the nuts removed, lift the defective power supply out of the Beam Air casing so that you can access the screw terminal block. Take note of the connected wire configuration, as these will need to be transferred to the replacement power supply. We recommend transferring one wire at a time so that the configuration is not accidentally changed. To install the replacement power supply, follow these steps in reverse order.
